OUR TECHNIQUES & TERMINOLOGY
after the pinching/pleating/binding of the fabrics comes the fun part. mixing water and small batches from our stock of hundreds of colors of raw powder dye, the liquid is applied by hand to each bound piece from fine tipped bottles. this allows for one color to bleed into the next, creating new hues within each individual piece. the liquid tends to have a mind of it's own but we do our best to guide the dye for the outcome and effects we need to achieve.
think monotone. think chemistry. combinations of raw powder dye are mixed in baths to create muddled effects with depth, richness, and variance of a particular hue.
mixture of raw powder dye in deep basins of water to activate depth of color and offer coverage to larger areas of fabric. garments must sit and soak overnight in these baths to ensure full saturation of dye.
think artwork. think design and contrast. this is the actual process of creating our patterns and colorways. influenced by techniques of traditional tie-dye, our work has developed into a craft. day in and day out our group of trained artists pinch/pleat/bind our fabrics into a multitude of ways coupled with the application of some of our hundreds of dyes to create the styles and designs that you see.
